Music Mondays - Cacti
This week I am so excited to gush about the ballet Cacti, choreographed by Alexander Ekman, that the Tulsa Ballet is presenting this weekend as part of their 'Signature Series'.
I will be performing as part of the Tulsa Rock Quartet (TRQ) and I cannot even begin to explain how excited I am to share the stage with some INCREDIBLE dancers, and fellow musicians for an exceptional performance.
I wish I had the opportunity to do projects like this more often! I've been buzzing with excitement about this and the music. I have never had to memorize chamber music before, or count breaths and slaps, and stomps before...but now I don't want to stop.
Talk about getting out of our comfort zone! The string quartet moves, improvizes, takes cues from the gestures of the dancers (and vice versa), play offstage, walk - yes even the cellist! - we are part of the collaboration and choreography.
We had our first dress rehearsal this evening and I cannot wait for the audience to see this!
The quartet plays selections from Beethoven Op. 59 #3, Haydn Op. 9 No. 6, Improvisations on Schubert's Death and the Maiden, and more.
